Spring is in full swing here in Northern California and what better way to enjoy the weather than to head out to Peet’s in Danville to soak up the rays and to hang out with other cyclist.

Once we departed Starbucks in Hercules we quickly made our way out to Pinole Valley Road and up Castro Valley Ranch where we regrouped for photos and some quick banter before making our way onto San Pablo Dam Road where Mario and Jonah dialed up the wattage and dropped the hammer quickly gapping the group like we were standing still.

At Bear Creek some of the guys with prior commitments turned back down while the rest continued towards Orinda where we made a quick stop to drop some grams and more photos ops for Jerry because he said we looked gangsta.

While Chris brought up riding on the 24 again, we opted for a much more calmer route on the St. Stephens Trail into Lafayette, where once on Diablo Andy showed the group his Time Trial skills and made short work of the segment.

The group took a slight detour up Tic Valley where Ron and Ken showed their climbing skills by rocketing up the climb like they had a motor strapped to their wheels!

As we approached Danville Blvd Chris dropped the hammer on all of us and dialed the top speed setting to: Insane. Good thing for the red light or else we would have never caught up.

Peet’s was jumping this morning with bikes everywhere and the place over flowing with cyclist. You’ll never know who will just ride up, like BBC climbing celebrity Jerry W!

After relaxing in the sun the group mounted up and headed back. Unfortunately, on one of the side streets a pothole greeted Andy and sent him down which also caused Ron to go down as well. Luckily no major injuries and a homeowner came out to help Andy clean up his wounds.

A bit later the group continued back to Hercules while Andy and Ron were SAG back home for some TLC.

We wish them both and their bikes speed a speedy recovery as next week we’ll be back out riding the Lafayette Loop via Altarinda and Alhambra.
