What’s up HCC!

This past Saturday, HCC had another great group ride which took us through some of the hidden gems of the Bay Area back roads!!!

The group met at our usual staging spot at Hercules Starbucks. The morning started out a bit chilly, but was more like a Spring day than a winter day and set the stage for a great day of cycling.

We departed Hercules and headed out towards Pinole at a nice mellow social pace as we approached San Pablo Dam Reservoir as usual the pace quickens with Roger and Mario leading the way!  After a short regroup at WildCat Canyon we continued towards Si Si Cafe for a quick break for coffee and snacks before heading to our first hidden gem, the city of Canyon and a fun ascent up Pinehurst aka “Pinehurt”.

After the nice break it was time to tackle Pinehurst rd. which is a lovely stretch through a redwood forest with a nice climb at the end with some spots hitting 12% grade. While on Pinehurst rd we were treated to a glimpse of a real pro descending the other direction and it was none other than the great Fast Freddie! Whoa! He was moving fast!! The group would regroup at the top of Pinehurst after the lung burning climb for a short rest. Then it was on to the next hidden gem Grizzly Peak rd!

Grizzly Peak rd is a beautiful stretch of road with rolling hills and short climbs that stretches from the Oakland hills to the Berkeley hills with one the best views of the Bay Area.  This day didn’t disappoint because we were gifted with a great view!

The next stop was at the Berkeley Steam Trains for a quick water refill. Then we made our way back to Hercules via Wildcat Canyon rd. During this stretch one our new riders Manny unfortunately got separated from the group. Luckily we were able to locate him and we regrouped at Wildcat and SPDR intersection.
After the quick stop to regroup, once again it was time to push the pace on the SPDR to Castro Ranch Rd. Which is always fun! With Paulo, myself, Roger and Ronald leading the way!
After the short regroup at Castro Ranch it was quick ride back to Hercules. Thanks to all that came out and made this a fun ride!!
This weekend we have a local ride planned bridge to bridge scenic route! Hope all of you can make this ride as it sure to be a good one!!  Cheers HCC!!
