Ride Recap: HCC Saturday Ride – 01/10/2015 – Kings Mountain and Alpine Rd

Ride Recap by Andy M.  Photos by “The Juanderer”, Francisco, and James

What’s up HCC!

Today, HCC ventured out to the peninsula with milder temperatures compared to the frigid Danville ride last Saturday.  We had seven riders show up with a surprise visit from The Juanderer.  It was great seeing you Juan,
You looked great!  hope to be riding with you soon!
We kept a nice endurance pace across the Dumbarton Bridge and kept it all the way to the base of Kings Mountain.  At that point Wilbur and Francisco stepped up the pace along with Richard and Ron to follow.   James, Arnel and I stayed back and took it easy.
We had a short pit stop  just before descending La Honda Road where Wilbur and Arnel decided to head back.
The La Honda 8 mile descent was fun as it is wide and had some nice sweeping turns.
We then proceeded to Pescadero road.  At that point James began to describe the details of the 7 mile climb and the beautiful scenery around it.   For most of us, it was our first time climbing it and it was very scenic.
After reaching the ridge, the expansive views along the west opened up.  It was pretty breathtaking.
Then came the tortuous descent along Page Mill Road where I believe my rear spoke nipple broke through the rim causing a severe wobble.  I didn’t notice it until Richard mentioned it.  I later had to disengage rear brakes and just use the front because of brake rub.  Fortunately, it was after all the descending.
With 14 miles to go, we had some excellent chowder and sandwiches.
Thanks everyone for coming out to ride! and a BIG THANKS to Ride Leader, James Tolosa for leading the ride and showing us where all the hidden water spigots were!!
Next week, we are going to keep it local as we tackle Moraga-Pinehurst-Grizzly Peak Loop!  Hope y’all can join us!
