Ride Recap: HCC New Years Day Ride – Thursday – 01/01/2015 – Heather Farms to Mt. Diablo

Happy New Year HCC!

We had a cold freezing New Years Day ride up Mt Diablo.  Thanks to everyone who came out to ride and braved the freeze warning advisory.  We had 18 riders roll out of Heather Farms in Walnut Creek.  The group rolled out and kept a mild zone II pace.

As we reached the North Gate, everyone went their own pace up the hill.  We had Steve Salvador, Jaime, Jerry W, and Joey spear heading the ascent to the summit.

Many of us did not stop at the junction too long as we didn’t want to get cold.  Adrian and Jerry N turned back at the junction and headed back to Heather Farms.

Everyone made it to the summit okay.  It was actually not too cold on top as the sun was beaming down on us.

descending was a whole different ball game, freezing cold wind chill was very unpleasant, but it was great to see hundreds of cyclist making their way up to the top.

Overall it was a great first ride of the year!!   If your competing to win a new pair of running shoes for the RRS Distance Challenge, this satisfies the club ride requirement!  Good luck again to everyone!

This Saturday, we have another ride favorite, Hercules to Danville route!  Hope to see y’all then!
