Ride Recap – HCC Saturday Ride – 07/05/2014 – Lafayette Loop via Reliez

What’s up HCC!

Another awesome ride today!!!  The morning started out cool, with the sun out breaking through the clouds and the sky cleared out as the morning progressed into a warmer day.  There was a total of 17 riders today, where 16 riders rolled out of Hercules and Adrian Joined in the fun at the bottom of Franklin Canyon rd.  We had one new rider join us today, Richard from Lafayette, welcome to HCC!  Glad you were able to join us this morning!  Hope to ride with you again soon!

The ride started out at a mild pace as the group warmed up going up a few bumps on the way to Cummings Skyway.  Unfortunately during the climb at Cummings Skyway, Jeff broke his derailleur hanger in half!  Not repairable 🙁  so with master mechanic Ron M’s help, we took off the derailleur and chain, safe enough for Jeff to cruise down the hill back to Hercules where he parked his car.  I did confirm with Jeff that he got back to his car safely.  Jeff, we hope you get your bike fixed and ready to go for next weekend’s Death Ride!

While Andy, Ron and I stayed behind with Jeff, the group continued on to keep the legs moving down to the bottom of Franklin Canyon rd where we all regrouped!

The rest of the ride was smooth sailing.  Everyone did well on the ride.  Bochie rode strong despite being hung over, Jim attacking the hills, and Dong with a strong sprint finish at SPDR.

We had a short break at the Peet’s Coffee in Lafayette where we drew intrigued from fellow cyclists.  As the group proceeded on San Pablo Dam Road (SPDR) with mild headwinds, the group stretched out.  Glenn showing what Group A is all about, hammered down SPDR and straight back to Vallejo!  Great riding with you today sir!

Everyone got back safely to Hercules!  We ended the ride with a dose of caffeine and great pastries at East Bay Coffee in Pinole.  Thanks again to Bill, Billy, and family for their hospitality and hooking us up with some much needed caffeine to get us through the rest of the day 🙂  If you guys haven’t tried East Bay Coffee, it’s a great place, make sure to order the Havana with a side of The Financier pastry, great combo!

Thanks again to everyone who came out and rode today!  Thanks to Andy for leading the group and Bochie sweeping on the tail end.  Mtb ride tomorrow!  Don’t miss out on the thrilling route at Joaquin Miller Park, great ride for you dirt heads out there!  If we don’t see tomorrow, see y’all on the Wednesday ride or the July Fondo next weekend!

We also would like to wish every HCC member participating in next weekend’s Death Ride good luck!!!  We all know y’all will have a strong finish!!!  Reppin HCC!  🙂
