Ride Recap – HCC SATURDAY RIDE – 06/07/2014 – Alpine Dam Short Loop

What’s up HCC!

Great day for cycling today as we tackled a short 34 miles and 3400 ft on this Alpine Dam Short Loop. Thanks to Andy M. for another great route! We also had Kelly B. joining us for the first time on todays ride. Welcome to HCC! The morning started out cold, windy, and overcast in the city of Mill Valley. There was 13 riders that rolled out of Mt. Tamalpais High School at about 7:54 am.

We carried out an easy pace going through the city of Ross, where we stopped or slowed down for every stop sign – can’t risk getting a ticket citation. We took an early break as some riders needed to use the restroom before we started the climb at a coffee shop in Fairfax on Bolinas rd.

The ascent towards Alpine Dam was awesome! The climb yielded a good challenge, green lush canopies that provided shade and kept us cool from the sun, and a fun descent down to Alpine Dam where you wouldn’t think were still in the Bay Area – so beautiful! Alpine Dam is a feat local of local engineering where HCC happily took a break and enjoyed the view of the water. While at the Dam, Roger’s front tire blew up while parked on the railing. We have no idea how it happened, but luckily the guys packed a tire boot that yet again saved the day. Roger was back on the road, hammering yet again with the tire boot on!

There was more climbing ahead as we proceeded to complete the next half of the route. Everyone did well on the climbs. The weather went from cold to hot to cold to hot to cold. Lots of micro climates in this area which gives this route a lot of character.

It was a great ride! We all got back safely to our cars. Thanks again to everyone who came out to ride! We have another epic ride next week, Mt. Hamilton which will be led by James Tolosa! Don’t miss out on this ride, our first time venturing out to the South Bay. Hope to see y’all then!
